The Very Large Array, is a highly regarded astronomical radio observatory, consisting of 27 (very large) radio antennas in a Y-shaped configuration on the Plains of San Agustin fifty miles west of Socorro, New Mexico (about 2 hours drive from Albuquerque). Each antenna is 82 feet in diameter.

Visiting the VLA is a Albuquerque Day Trip that can be combined with a visit to the Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Reserve about 45 min's. away.
