September in Albuquerque. The days are becoming cooler, crisper and perfectly comfortable. It is less than a week from the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, an event I eagerly await.
As I write this entry, five hot air balloons slowly sail past my window. Two land in the field behind my home. Aaaah, where else can you get that experience but in Albuquerque!
A fellow I conversed with recently made the comment that "Albuquerque is what Denver was twenty years ago." He was reflecting on a sense of authenticity in the culture of Albuquerque. It is the real thing, not remodeled, upgraded, gentrified, and "Disneyfied". The everyday folks that give this city its soul and history are still here. The culture feels handmade, not manufactured by faceless corporations. That is true Albuquerque style!
